What is AutoSync and how do I use it?
Solution What is AutoSync?

AutoSync is a feature from MP3tunes which allows you to automatically move your music between computers and devices. You can upload music from one location and have it download instantly to other locations:

Eventually, there will be a whole host of devices that you can AutoSync your music to (sorry, no phones yet... please stay tuned). Two mobile devices which support AutoSync are: the Nokia N800 and N810 wireless Internet tablets.

Setting up AutoSync

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of LockerSync 3.0. If you installed your copy of LockerSync prior to March 3rd, 2008 you should uninstall the old copy and download and install the latest version. (Note: if you are running Linux then you will also need to install the library: python-pyxmpp in order for AutoSync to work.)

  2. Set Up Your Account. In order to activate AutoSync you should follow these steps:

Log into your Locker and click on "Preferences":

    Click on "View your devices":

Click the link to enable AutoSync:

  3. How to Autosync files: get two machines set up. In this example, one machine is the "sender" and the other is the "receiver". Be sure that you have the latest version of LockerSync installed on both machines and that they are logged into the same MP3tunes Premium account. On the sender machine set up TuneWatch to monitor a folder. Copy (or download) a new file into the watched folder and wait. TuneWatch should upload the file from the sender machine to your MP3tunes Locker. Within a few minutes the receiver machine should activate and sync the same file down from your Locker.

Files that already exist in your Locker will not be synced up or down. Files that don't have any ID3 tags will go to TuneUp and will not be synced down. Unsupported file types will not be synced up or down. So, to test the AutoSync feature you need to have new files which do not exist on either machine, that have not been indexed by LockerSync, and which do not already exist in your MP3tunes Locker (or in the Trash Bin).

  4. In order to sync to devices you'll need to have a Premium Account! The AutoSync feature works with all free MP3tunes Locker accounts if you are syncing between computers. But, if you would like to (eventually) be able to sync between devices then you'll need a Premium Locker account. To upgrade, you can log into your MP3tunes Locker and click on "My Account" then go to "MP3tunes Locker Subscription" and click the link that says "Purchase Premium Locker".

    Additional info:

  • You can AutoSync between a maximum of five (5) computers / devices currently.
  • To sync to the N800 or N810 you have to install additional software and configure the device (coming soon).
  • This software is beta and is not officially supported.
  • The new AutoSync feature appears in the LockerSync interface when enabled:

Once you enable the feature via the web site, AutoSync is automatically turned on in LockerSync 3.0. But, you can manually enable/disable it by going to preferences:
